Google announced that the Google Reader will retire on July 1, 2013.
Hence all the Google Reader references in this site are removed. The Reader widget used in the Feeds page is changed with RSS Feed gadget.
Check the new Feeds page.
Enabled "Automatically adjust site to mobile phones".
Click More>Manage Site, go to Mobile option and tick.
The FLASH based Google Talk Gadget is no more supported under Google Sites. Hence the Talk page from this site is removed.
Google would be ending playbacks of Google Videos soon. Videos currently uploaded and hosted on this platform should be either migrated to YouTube or downloaded as a file.
I've migrated my video embedded in http://www.raveen.net/videos from Google Videos to YouTube.
Also all references to Google Videos are removed.
Favicon (Favorite icon), a small icon that appears on the browser tabs for a website not only adds fancy but it has functional benefits too. Especially when we scroll through browser history or bookmarks, it gives easy visualization.
I created a png file (16 x 16 pixels) with transparent background. The letter ‘R’ also has transparent background. The file is renamed as
faviconfavicon.ico and uploaded via More Actions>Manage site>Attachments>Upload to /top level.
On Chrome browser it appears like this:
Thanks to kalpen who gave inputs to add a favicon to my site.
The search box on top has two options now ('Search this site' and 'Search web'). Thanks to Google Sites team for providing this new feature. Visitors can now make search queries on this site or entire web.
Google added more page layout options with 1/2/3 column and left/right side bar. Though this release has affected the layout of some existing pages, the new layout offers very flexible design options. I’ve corrected overlapping in existing pages Home, Greetings, Photos sub-pages and Tamil. I’ve improved Comments and About pages with new layout for better readability.
I have manually moved the site content from Google Pages to Google Sites. Hence I opted out of automatic migration by Google by selecting Option 2 - Opt out of the move, and take your pages to a new location.
I setup a Redirect URL so that visit to http://nraveen.googlepages.com will redirect to http://sites.google.com/site/nraveen.
Interestingly the sub-pages are also getting redirected. Example: http://nraveen.googlepages.com/photos is redirected to http://sites.google.com/site/nraveen/photos. And if the matching page is not available in the new site, it provides a link to Home page of the new site.
The migration options are very well thought and implemented by Google Labs team and many thanks for that.
